2022 NSW Premier’s Harmony Dinner

On March 1, 2022, CIRCA attended the NSW Premier’s Harmony Dinner.

The Premier’s Harmony Dinner, hosted by the Minister for Multiculturalism, in the presence of the Premier of New South Wales, was a gala to recognize and celebrate the important contributions of multicultural leaders and organisations.  CIRCA was pleased to have Padma Raman, CEO of ANROWS, as a special guest at the gala.

Harmony Day is celebrated every year on March 21st. It is a day to celebrate Australian diversity and the values of inclusion, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. The Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Some amazing facts about multiculturalism in Australia*:

– almost half (49%) of Australians were born overseas or have at least one parent who was.

– we identify with more than 300 ancestors

– more than 7.5 million people have migrated to Australia since 1945

– 85% of Australians agree that multiculturalism has been good for Australia.

– in addition to English, the most widely spoken languages in Australia are Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Tagalog/Filipino, Hindi, Spanish and Punjabi

– More than 70 indigenous languages are spoken in Australia.
