PROJECT

Investigation of cyber-racism in Australia

DATE

2016

Summary

CIRCA conducted research with a range of target groups to investigate views and experiences of cyber-racism on behalf of Andrew Jakubowicz, Professor of Sociology at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Our methodology

Qualitative research was conducted in focus groups with young people from a range of culturally and linguistically diverse communities and Aboriginal communities, and with key community and government stakeholders. People who are active online in protecting Australia’s ‘national identity’ were recruited into an online discussion forum where a moderated discussion was conducted over several days across key themes.

The outcome

The research findings gleaned valuable insights into experiences of and responses to cyber-racism which were incorporated into Professor Jakubowicz et al book, Cyber Racism and Community Resilience (2017).
