PROJECT

Exploratory Research with New Migrants Parents

DATE

December 2022

Summary

CIRCA was contracted by Snapcracker to conduct research into parents’ perceptions of child development, particularly among Afghan and Nepali mothers who have recently migrated to Australia.

The project aimed to explore community understanding of the early years of childhood development, and to provide insights into how this can be supported through a government initiative.

CIRCA’s Research Approach

To achieve this, CIRCA conducted two online focus groups with newly arrived Afghan and Nepali mothers with children aged 0-5 years. CIRCA also conducted a further two one-on-one interviews with one mother in each group, to explore the user experience of current webpages that provide information on child development. All focus groups and interviews were conducted in-language by CIRCA’s research consultants.

Research Findings and Outcomes

The findings of the research will be used by a government agency to improve parents’ access to information about child development and facilitate better access to resources and programs for new migrant parents.
