PROJECT

Research and concept testing with CALD employers and employees

DATE

March 2022

Summary

Ipsos engaged CIRCA to investigate knowledge and attitudes towards workplace laws, employee rights, and employer obligations in targeted CALD communities. Some communication materials were also tested among the groups.

CIRCA’s Research Approach

To meet these objectives, ten 60-minute online interviews were conducted with employers and eight 120-minute online mini-focus groups were conducted with employees. CIRCA identified and recruited a total of 53 participants from Arabic-, Mandarin-, Vietnamese-, and Korean-speaking backgrounds, as well as people from Indian backgrounds and one cross-cultural group of agricultural farm workers.

Research Findings and Outcomes

The research provided insight into the contextual factors faced by migrants that influence their understanding of workplace laws and obligations, including how low English proficiency and migrant status can affect awareness and compliance.

CIRCA provided Ipsos with a top-line report containing the analysis and insights from the focus groups and interviews for use in developing a communications campaign.
