PROJECT

Deadly Sports Program

DATE

2016

Summary

The Deadly Sports program provides primary school students in rural and remote Indigenous communities within Queensland, exposure to elite sporting athletes. Sporting athletes provide skill development and game experience while promoting the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

Queensland National Parks, Sports and Recreation (NPSR) commissioned CIRCA to conduct the evaluation of the Deadly Sports program. The evaluation highlighted what is working well in the program and opportunities for program development moving forward.

Our methodology

Face to face and telephone qualitative consultations were conducted with a diverse range of stakeholders in the community and across organisations involved in Deadly Sports. The results were aggregated and analysed thematically. CIRCA conducted a workshop with independent advisors to develop a consolidated perspective of what was working well and opportunities to improve program efficiency and effectiveness.

Outcome

The evaluation informed policy and program development and has resulted in a ten-point action plan for evolution of the program. The action plan is focused on stronger program outcomes for young people, the community, the sport and NPSR.
