PROJECT

Integrated support model for recently settled refugee men to improve social and emotional wellbeing

DATE

2016

Summary

CIRCA conducted an evaluation of an integrated support model for refugee men project aimed at improving the social and emotional wellbeing of males recently settled in Australia from Arabic, Farsi and/or Dari and Tamil speaking communities. The integrated model included the New Roots mobile application, an online toolkit for caseworkers and a community training course for community leaders.

Our methodology

An evaluation plan and program logic were developed in consultation with Beyond Blue and Settlement Services International. The evaluation plan included a range of qualitative and quantitative data sources, including analytics around the use of the online toolkit and the New Roots App. Qualitative research was conducted by CIRCA’s bilingual and culturally diverse expert consultants to ensure that the data collected is high quality and culturally relevant. The use of bilingual research consultants is a key factor in the quality of evidence collected.

The outcome

Key outcomes from the evaluation included whether the program should be replicated nationally and/or for other language groups, an understanding of barriers and opportunities for future investors and whether the existing program should be continued beyond the pilot phase. The Final evaluation report is available here.
