Meet the CIRCA team: Pino Migliorino, Managing Director of CIRCA and Cultural Perspectives.

By June 14, 2022 Uncategorised

Meet the CIRCA team! Today we are introducing Pino Migliorino, the Managing Director of CIRCA and Cultural Perspectives.

1. What’s your favourite thing about working with CIRCA?
The opportunity to disrupt the prevailing norms in research. Research with minority populations is typically seen as a “nice to have”, rather than an essential component of investigations. CIRCA demonstrates that this research can be done and, more importantly, it can be done well.

2. What drew you to working in this space originally?
I was involved in a range of research projects while studying government at Sydney University. This involved both quantitative sample studies and qualitative investigations. I was always dismayed with how different the research results were from my lived experiences. Once in a university essay, I made a claim about the cross-over between gender and academic success, and how families respond. My piece was heavily criticised because I failed to cite references. The reason was simple, there were none, and my life experience did not cut the academic standard required. The answer for me, therefore, was to try to change the way research is undertaken and to develop inclusive methodologies.

3. What’s your favourite place to travel to?
I won’t be constrained in this. I love Japan for its gardens, design, style and sense of peace. I love Rome for all the opposite reasons.
